Creating a Child Class

• The basic syntax for a Java class is:

  
      class ClassName extends ParentClass
      {
      private Class _instanceVariable;
      ...
  
      public returnType methodName(Class arg1, ...)
      {
          statement;
          ...
      }
      }
  
  

• If you create a class that does not specify its superclass, it automatically is defined as a subclass of the Object class.

• So, an application has as its parent the default (Object) and so does your Pizza() class and your Parking Simulator classes.

• This is why our classes already have some methods available to them like toString() - they inherit them from the parent Object class.
